PHP Critical Update - October 26

PHP Critical Update - October 26

PHP has now published details of two critical security issues affecting PHP on web servers everywhere.

PHP is a programming language and one of the pieces of software running on your hosting package, and WordPress is written in PHP. It's constantly updated in the background and your site may currently be running PHP v8.4 for example.

Security researchers have discovered critical issues in PHP that can lead to security problems with PHP based websites.  Patches are currently being deployed around the world to prevent these issues.

My hosting provider has been in touch and are on the case already:

We are rolling out additional protections across all our shared and managed servers now. These may block some file uploads or forms on your site in the short term. If something has stopped working, please open a ticket with the page address and we’ll look at it straight away.

We are also ready to install the patched PHP versions on every server as soon as they are available. The fixes for each PHP version come from the vendors who supply them, such as CloudLinux. They are releasing these version by version, and we will apply each one as it arrives.

If you have any issues with a website that we host please contact us via ticket and we will look into it for you while the hosting provider are working on the fixes.

Thanks,
Nick
